Botox® is one of the most popular as well as misconstrued anti-aging treatments. Botox® like all injectibles needs to be administered by a well-trained and skilled Doctor to see good results. You can look younger with Botox®, without looking “fake” as most people like to call it – if it’s done well.

Another misconception that people have with Botox® is that you need it only once you enter your 40’s, this is NOT true. Botox® is a muscle relaxant which relaxes your facial muscles and prevent further wrinkles, it does not fill pre-existing wrinkles or make them disappear. The perfect time to opt for Botox® would be in your late 20’s or at the initial stage of appearance of fine lines to prevent further wrinkling.

Botox®, also called botulinum toxin type A, is a natural, purified protein made from the bacteria called botulism. Botulinum toxin blocks nerve activity in the muscles, causing a temporary reduction in muscle activity, reducing fine lines and wrinkles that have not set in yet.

BOTOX® is US FDA-approved for the treatment of frown lines between the eyebrows and is also commonly used to prevent or treat horizontal lines on the forehead and crow’s feet around the eyes, it can also be used to create a mini-browlift, reduce lip lines, relax vertical neck muscle bands, or to aesthetically improve other features of the face. It is also used to treat migraine, reduce sweating and for slimming the face.

Botox® is inserted in the upper layer of your skin, numbing cream is used to maximise the patient's comfort level.

Depending on how sensitive your skin is, the effects may vary but on an average there may be some mild red spots at the injection sites, but they are gone the next day. Overall, the discomfort with Botox® is very minimal, especially in relation to the phenomenal results.

Again this depends individually for some it last up to 3 months whereas there are certain people who need Botox® only every six months.

There are no side effects as such if administered correctly, however extreme side effects in rare cases could include muscle weakness, bruising, bleeding, pain, redness, drooping eyelids where it has been injected or fever, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth.

Botox® is suitable for those people who have fine lines but they are not too deep or set it. It is preferable to undergo Botox® at the beginning rather than after deep impressions have been made by the lines already.
Some people who should not have Botox® treatments include those with:
• Existing weakness in the targeted muscles
• Ptosis (drooping eyelids)

It takes about 5-14 days to see visible results varying from person to person.

This is the biggest misconception people have, if Botox® is done right the changes are so subtle that you look beautiful without people being able to put a finger on how you look different. The most important factor you need to consider when doing Botox® is the doctor you go to. Make sure you doctor you go to a Doctor that you trust, with sufficient experience and ideally look at examples of their work before deciding.
